The Robert Jones and St Agnes Hunt Spinal Unit
- www.rjah.nhs.uk

Founded in 1965, The Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries at Oswestry is now housed in a Unit opened in 2000 and has treated over 4000 patients with spinal injuries and traumatic and non-traumatic spinal paralysis.

The Centre provides an acute and an elective service for patients with traumatic spinal injuries from the initial stages of paralysis and for life thereafter. Regular outpatient attendance is essential in the diagnosis and prevention of avoidable complications and for treatment of established complications of which the patient may not be aware due to the impairment of loss of sensation.

A wide range of services are provided including:

  • Diagnosis
  • Surgical and non surgical treatment of injury and multi-system impairment
  • Rehabilitation of inpatients
  • Follow up care for life
  • Health promotion and education of patients and carers
  • Assessment of patient requirements for appliances (seating and walking devices)
  • Aftercare service

The Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in the treatment of various aspects of paralysis due to spinal cord impairment. Specialist knowledge and infrastructure are available to assess and treat the neuro-genic bladder.
